Snapshot (data)
A point-in-time copy of data captured by an automation for reporting or comparison. Example: a weekly snapshot of all open deals in the CRM allows trend analysis you can see how the pipeline grew or shrank week-over-week.
Expert insight
A data snapshot is a point-in-time copy, useful for comparison or rollback, but it goes stale the moment the live data changes after it, a workflow comparing "current state" against an old snapshot without accounting for that staleness will flag differences that are just normal, expected drift, not real anomalies.
In a real workflow
A daily snapshot of inventory is saved so stock levels on any past date can be checked.
Common mistakes
- Snapshots without retention limits.
- Inconsistent snapshot times.
Complexity level
Requires some familiarity with automation concepts.
