Pagination

The practice of splitting large API responses across multiple pages. Most APIs return a maximum of 100 records per request. Proper pagination loops through all pages until no more results remain critical when processing complete datasets.

Expert insight

A workflow that fetches "all records" from an API but doesn't handle pagination will silently process only the first page (often 20-100 records) and behave as if that were the complete dataset, one of the most common silent-failure bugs in integrations against APIs with large datasets.

In a real workflow

A CRM returns contacts 100 at a time; the workflow follows the "next page" link until the end.

Common mistakes

  • Processing only the first page and believing it is complete.
  • Changing filters between pages, which skips records.
