Fan-out
A pattern where one event triggers multiple independent downstream workflows simultaneously. Example: a new client signs → fan out to: (1) create invoice, (2) set up project, (3) send welcome email, (4) notify account manager all in parallel.
Expert insight
A fan-out pattern (one event triggering many parallel downstream actions) needs each downstream branch to fail independently, if one of ten fanned-out actions fails and takes the others down with it, the fan-out isn't actually providing the isolation it's meant to, each branch needs its own error handling, not a shared failure path.
In a real workflow
One new product is published to the website, Google Shopping and three marketplaces at once.
Common mistakes
- No handling of partial failures.
- Rate limits across many destinations.
Complexity level
Requires some familiarity with automation concepts.
