Feature flag

A configuration switch that enables or disables specific workflow logic without redeployment. PURIST uses feature flags to roll out new automation behaviour to one client first validating it before enabling globally.

Expert insight

Feature flags used to gradually roll out a new automation to a subset of records or clients let you catch a bad workflow change against 5% of traffic instead of 100%, but flags that are never cleaned up after the rollout completes accumulate into a confusing tangle of conditional logic nobody remembers the reason for.

In a real workflow

A new routing rule is enabled for 10% of leads first through a flag.

Common mistakes

  • Old flags never removed.
  • Flags nobody remembers.
