Null handling
Gracefully managing missing or empty data fields without crashing the workflow. Example: if `contact.phone` is null, skip the SMS step and continue rather than failing the entire run. Every production workflow handles nulls explicitly.
Expert insight
Inconsistent null handling, one part of a workflow treating an empty string as equivalent to null, another treating them as different values, produces conditional logic that behaves unpredictably depending on which specific representation of "nothing" a given record happens to use, worth standardizing null handling explicitly rather than leaving it implicit.
In a real workflow
If a lead has no company name, the workflow uses the email domain instead of sending an empty value.
Common mistakes
- Treating null, empty string and zero the same.
- Crashing on missing fields.
