Health check
An automated test that verifies a workflow or integration is functioning correctly. PURIST runs health checks every 60 seconds via Checkly if a check fails, our team is alerted before the client's operation is impacted.
Expert insight
A health check that only confirms "the server responded" misses the more common failure mode: the server responds fine but a downstream dependency (the database, a third-party API) is degraded. A meaningful health check tests the actual critical path a workflow depends on, not just that the workflow engine itself is running.
In a real workflow
A scheduled workflow pings each critical integration every 15 minutes and alerts if one stops responding.
Common mistakes
- Checking that a service is up without checking that it returns valid data.
- Alerting on every blip instead of sustained failures.
