Edge case
An input or scenario that falls outside the normal expected range. Example: a contact form submitted with an emoji in the name field crashes a poorly built automation. PURIST stress-tests against edge cases before every deployment.
Expert insight
The edge cases that break production automations are rarely exotic, they're usually the boring ones: an empty field, a name with an apostrophe, a record created at exactly midnight that lands on the wrong side of a date boundary. Testing with real historical data (which naturally contains these) surfaces more edge cases than testing with hand-crafted "normal" sample records.
In a real workflow
A customer with two email addresses, or an order with a 100% discount, is handled explicitly instead of breaking the workflow.
