Hosted vs self-hosted
Hosted tools (Zapier, Make cloud) run on the vendor's servers. Self-hosted tools (n8n self-hosted) run on your own infrastructure. Self-hosted gives data control, custom code execution, and no per-task pricing at the cost of infrastructure management.
Expert insight
Self-hosting n8n trades a monthly subscription for infrastructure responsibility, someone has to patch the server, monitor uptime, and handle backups that a hosted/cloud version would manage automatically. Self-hosting makes sense for data-sovereignty requirements or high execution volume where hosted pricing gets expensive; it's the wrong choice for a team with no one able to own that infrastructure.
How PURIST uses this
This concept is built into every automation we deploy.
When PURIST builds your automation, Hosted vs self-hosted is not an optional consideration it is part of the production standard. Our workflows are tested against edge cases, monitored 24/7, and built to handle what happens when things don't go as expected.
Every client workflow we deploy in the Architecture category is designed with this principle in mind from day one not added as an afterthought.
