Concurrent execution

Running multiple workflow instances simultaneously, each processing a different record. When 50 form submissions arrive at once, concurrent execution processes all 50 in parallel rather than one at a time. Requires careful state management to avoid race conditions.

Expert insight

Allowing a workflow to execute concurrently on the same record (two triggers for the same customer firing close together) can produce a race condition where both executions read the same starting state and one overwrites the other's update, workflows that update shared records benefit from explicit locking or de-duplication of concurrent triggers on the same entity.

In a real workflow

Several orders are processed at the same time to keep up with a sale.

Common mistakes

  • Two executions updating the same record at once.
  • Exceeding API limits with too much concurrency.
