Logic within a workflow that routes execution down different paths based on data values. "If the deal value is > £10,000, notify the senior account manager. Else, assign to junior." Essential for sophisticated automations.
Expert insight
The mistake that causes the most silent failures is forgetting the "else" branch. A condition that only handles the case you expected leaves every other case (a null value, an unexpected status, a record that doesn't match any rule) falling through with no action taken and no error thrown. A workflow is only as reliable as its least-considered branch.
In a real workflow
An IF node sends leads with a company size above 50 to sales and smaller leads to a nurture sequence.
Common mistakes
- Nesting so many conditions that nobody can follow the logic.
- Forgetting the "else" path, so records that match nothing simply disappear.
